Tshechyu – Monthly Guru Rinpoche Day
(A Sacred Monthly Observance at Sherpa Kyidug America)
What is Tshechyu?
Tshechyu (Tse‑Chu) means the 10th day of every month according to the Lunar Calendar.
This day is deeply sacred because Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche)—the great master who brought Buddhism to Tibet and the Himalayan region—was born on the 10th day of the 5th lunar month.
According to Buddhist tradition, Guru Rinpoche pledged to bless and guide his followers on the 10th day of every lunar month.
For this reason, Tshechyu is observed as an important spiritual day by Himalayan Buddhist communities around the world.
Tshechyu at Sherpa Kyidug America
Sherpa Kyidug America honors Tshechyu every month with a special Guru Rinpoche prayer service (Pooja) at the community center.
This monthly observance includes:
– Guru Rinpoche Pooja
– Prayer and mantra recitation
– Light offerings
– Community blessings
– Collective spiritual practice
The service provides an opportunity for individuals and families to connect with Guru Rinpoche’s compassion, protection, and wisdom.
Lawa – Turn‑Based Sponsorship
Members of the community who wish to participate more personally may take turns sponsoring the Tshechyu service through Lawa.
Families or individuals who take Lawa may:
– Sponsor the monthly Pooja
– Offer prayers and dedications in their name
– Request special blessings for loved ones
– Contribute to the spiritual continuity of the community
Lawa is a meaningful way to accumulate merit and support the preservation of our Himalayan Buddhist traditions.
