
Sherwi Rigshung Lopta is the official religious and spiritual sub‑committee of the United Sherpa Association. As the third most important body after the Executive Board and Trustee Board, this committee safeguards the spiritual heritage, cultural values, and religious traditions of the Sherpa community in New York.
Rooted in the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and the ancestral practices of the Sherpa people, Sherwi Rigshung Lopta plays a central role in guiding the community’s spiritual life and preserving sacred customs for future generations.
Our Purpose
The committee is entrusted with maintaining and promoting:
- Buddhist rituals, ceremonies, and prayer services
- Cultural and spiritual education for youth and families
- Community blessings, pujas, and religious observances
- Preservation of Sherpa spiritual identity and values
- Support for monks, lamas, and visiting religious teachers

What We Do
Throughout the year, the committee organizes and oversees:
- Losar celebrations and major Buddhist festivals
- Community prayer gatherings and healing pujas

- Cultural preservation activities in partnership with USA leadership
